How They Look

2 Feb

I came across a free month-long photography e-course this weekend and I decided it would be a good way to work on my photography skills. Put on by Willette Designs, this course is focused on the Joy of Love. It’s not too late to join the e-course, just hop on over to their website or click the link on the right.

Today was day 2 of the course and the focus was How They Look. The prompt was as follows:

Capture your loved one at their best (or at their worst).  Or both.                                What you’re trying to capture is the TRUE essence – expression – attitude – posture that SCREAMS your loved one.

I tried to catch a photo of Zoey sleeping since that is her best. Instead caught her mid stretch. I’ve always wanted a photo of her stretching. I love how she spreads all her toes apart and arches her back like a cat.

If you’d like to keep up with my other entries (since I won’t post them all here), visit the Flickr group. You’ll also be able to see everyone else’s entries as well!

Megan & Curt

5 Jun

Here is a handful of the finished engagement pictures I have been previewing over the last few weeks. Enjoy!

A few more peaks..

25 May

I like keeping Curt and Megan wanting more, so I’ve shared a few more pictures with them. Here is your chance to see them. I’m hoping to have them all edited by the end of the holiday weekend. I know they are anxiously waiting to see them. As soon as I show them the pics, I’ll be sure to show you more here. Let me know what you think of these, I’m SO new to editing with Lightroom and could use any pointers anyone has! Enjoy!

Your Safe Place

23 May

Just over a year ago, Zoey came into my life. Looking back on those first few weeks with my little furball, I never imagined she would ever prefer to be in her kennel. She wined like a little baby when I put her in her kennel. I often gave and in so she always would snuggle into bed with me, which I loved. It then became a fight for my pillow. She liked my space way more than she liked her space.

Things have changed over the last year. These days, the moment we go into my bedroom to go to sleep, Zoey is climbing in her kennel to nestle in for bed. She turns a few circles and moves the fluffy blanket just right and then settles in to sleep. I think it’s her safe place. It it comforting and familiar to her. In that place, she is unbothered and can just relax.

Dogs are a lot like humans. We all have our safe place. The place we go to relax. The place we go when we are sad,  or angry or just want to be alone. My place is my bed. No matter my mood, I feel most relaxed or comforted when I climb into bed. It’s my safe place. The place I go to forget about the stress of the day or the weather outside. It’s where I can let my mind be at ease and it’s the place I feel most safe.

Your place might be different than mine or Zoey’s, but the feeling you get in that place is the same. You are comfortable there. You are unbothered. You can relax. It’s the place you feel most safe.. your safe place.  Where is your safe place?

A Sneak Peak

23 May

I had the pleasure of taking my friend Megan’s engagement pictures last weekend. It was my first portrait session and it was a challenge for me but fun! It’s a completely new thing for me, I’m much more of a candid photographer (if you can even call me that). Here is a sneak peak at one of Curt and Megan’s photos. More to come soon…

My big brother was married to an amazing woman on August 22 in Sioux City. It was a great day and a night to remember! I had the honor of standing up for my brother as a ‘grooms woman’ or whatever you would like to call it. It was the perfect opportunity to get all dolled up and have a great time. I wish them all the best in the future!!

Something to celebrate…

25 Jun

July 1st will mark 365 days of smoke-free air in Iowa– something I think is worth celebrating!! It is so nice to breathe clean air when you go out on the town for dinner or drinks! My co-workers and I at the American Lung Association and the Central Iowa Tobacco-free Partnership have coordinated a great celebration that will take place EVERYDAY of next week. That’s this Sunday, June 28 until Saturday, July 4th. Yep- the whole week. So here’s what you need to do… Visit our website www.tobaccofreepartnership.com. Read the amazing specials and print the page. Then take it to your selected establishment (or to all of them if you’d really like to take advantage of this) Present the ad and tell your server, “I LOVE Smoke-free Iowa!”  and the special is yours! It really is that easy!!!

If you want to celebrate the week in style, visit The Authentic Records Store Online to buy the sweet shirt shown in the picture to the left. The shirts are super comfy and only 20 bucks. My co-workers and I are shown wearing our shirts at our event at the IACubs game last weekend.

And if you are wondering where to get a cute sticker to sport next week, swing by our office just off 73rd and Hickman in Urbandale. We’d be happy to know you love smoke-free Iowa just as much as we do!
