How They Look

2 Feb

I came across a free month-long photography e-course this weekend and I decided it would be a good way to work on my photography skills. Put on by Willette Designs, this course is focused on the Joy of Love. It’s not too late to join the e-course, just hop on over to their website or click the link on the right.

Today was day 2 of the course and the focus was How They Look. The prompt was as follows:

Capture your loved one at their best (or at their worst).  Or both.                                What you’re trying to capture is the TRUE essence – expression – attitude – posture that SCREAMS your loved one.

I tried to catch a photo of Zoey sleeping since that is her best. Instead caught her mid stretch. I’ve always wanted a photo of her stretching. I love how she spreads all her toes apart and arches her back like a cat.

If you’d like to keep up with my other entries (since I won’t post them all here), visit the Flickr group. You’ll also be able to see everyone else’s entries as well!

Furbaby Friday

28 Jan

What is your opinion on dressing your furbaby in clothes? Do you dress them in something new every day? Put a scarf around their neck before you head out in the cold?

As a kid, I tormented our dog and dressed her up in old baby clothes all the time. That was, of course, before they made stylish clothes for dogs and cats. I dress Zoey up every once in a while in a bandana or a holiday sweater, but I don’t think she needs an outfit for everyday. Heck I have enough laundry of my own, I don’t need to add Zoey’s clothes to the pile!

Last night while catching up with my Google Reader and my new favorite blog Craft Gossip, I came across this:

And… couldn’t stop laughing. Laughing out loud so much Zoey growled at me because she couldn’t figure out what was happening. The doggie is pretty cute, but you have to admit the collar makes you laugh! Best part of all, it’s recycled! Venture on over to Sew DoggyStyle and check out how you can make a collar for your furbaby!

Your Safe Place

23 May

Just over a year ago, Zoey came into my life. Looking back on those first few weeks with my little furball, I never imagined she would ever prefer to be in her kennel. She wined like a little baby when I put her in her kennel. I often gave and in so she always would snuggle into bed with me, which I loved. It then became a fight for my pillow. She liked my space way more than she liked her space.

Things have changed over the last year. These days, the moment we go into my bedroom to go to sleep, Zoey is climbing in her kennel to nestle in for bed. She turns a few circles and moves the fluffy blanket just right and then settles in to sleep. I think it’s her safe place. It it comforting and familiar to her. In that place, she is unbothered and can just relax.

Dogs are a lot like humans. We all have our safe place. The place we go to relax. The place we go when we are sad,  or angry or just want to be alone. My place is my bed. No matter my mood, I feel most relaxed or comforted when I climb into bed. It’s my safe place. The place I go to forget about the stress of the day or the weather outside. It’s where I can let my mind be at ease and it’s the place I feel most safe.

Your place might be different than mine or Zoey’s, but the feeling you get in that place is the same. You are comfortable there. You are unbothered. You can relax. It’s the place you feel most safe.. your safe place.  Where is your safe place?

My Weekend Getaway

17 Jun

Last weekend I traveled back home to Northern Iowa for a bridal shower for my brother & his fiance. It was a great excuse to spend the weekend with family and friends. I of course documented the entire weekend with photos and here they are:

The shower was a very nice gathering of family and friends in my hometown. The hostesses prepared a short skit and so did my parents friends group ‘ROTC’. My cousin’s little girls, Halle & Abby, prepared a very adorable song to honor Kara and they were the show stealer. They sang, “A You’re Adorable”.  I also got to the girls’ growing little brother and his new teeth! Isn’t he just adorable?!?! Kara and Nicholas received many nice gifts, espcecially a sweet cupcake/cake carrier from me!

After the shower, we traveled to the lake for a relaxing evening. It was exactly that! My best friend Melissa was able to join us for the afternoon since she lives only a short hour away. I hadn’t seen her for a few weeks, so it was great! We took our dogs swimming and they loved it! We had dinner at the Channel Inn in Fairmont, which is one of my FAVORITE places to grab a burger! (The only meal I didn’t take a picture of, but I wish I had!!) It’s a must visit if you ever travel through Fairmont, MN. We headed back to the lake after dinner and sat around the fire, roasting marshmallows and enjoying the beautiful weather!

Sunday morning we had camping breakfast… my favorite way to have breakfast. Potatoes, pancakes, eggs to order, bacon and sausage. YUMMY! My dad also cooked up some homemade donuts and we frosted them- so delicious! After breakfast, Melissa made friends with the neighbors (surprise, surprise- she never learned not to talk to strangers) and talked them into letting us use their paddleboat. We took it our for a fun spin around the bouys before we were both ready to head back to shore! The adorable Rezac family stopped up at the lake for a family photo shoot (those photos may appear later- but I can’t take the credit for them) The were goof balls as usual and really wanted to go swimming in the cold lake. Melissa and I were able to spend the day at the lake, relaxing in the sun, yet again with our dogs. We both managed to get a little sunburn before heading home for the weekend. Overall it was a great weekend and I wished I lived a little closer to home so I could do it every weekend!

Was doing some google searching today and also came across this site –>  FotoFlexer  It’s pretty similar to Picnik, but it had some different options you didn’t have to pay for.  Here are some pictures I edited! 🙂

Snapshots

28 May

I have a love of photography and have been taking quite a few pictures lately! Of course my new little puppy has served as a very good subject for many photos, but I also have documented some other events as well!  Here are a few of the pictures…
